Co-Parenting

Co-Parenting: When used in the context of adoption, this term can have the following meanings:

1. A long-term, formal or informal, agreement or plan to help provide the necessary support and resources to meet the needs of children. This generally applies to arrangements where extra caregivers support parents of children with physical, emotional or developmental disabilities by providing supplemental care and assistance with the child and/or ongoing respite parenting when needed.

2. An arrangement under which the normal duties of parenting a child are shared by several different individual or caregivers, some of which may or may not be the biological or adoptive parents of the child, but all of which already have, or are in the process of developing, significant relationships with the child.
